Bowl

03

This piece utilises the idea of the bowl as receptacle, in this case, as a holder of memories and identity: what happens when memories start to fail, leading on to questions of what makes us who we are really. Some scientists believe we are just a collection of habits, memories, and stories that together combine to make something called our 'Self'. So, in some ways, our selves aren't 'real' but continually remade each day as we re-remember our pasts to make sense of the present and how we want to be in the future.

The bowl is fragile and imperfect - as our memories and our selves are - and references the fragility through the use of porcelain. It's translucency lets us glimpse words, but not full sentences, as if broken, or lost.
